DyeStat Discussions - EP701 - Gabrielle Jennings
Published by
Gabrielle Jennings, an adidas professional representing Team Boss and a 43-time Louisiana high school state champion and Furman All-American, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing Aug. 19 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the NACAC Senior Championships in the Bahamas. Jennings, 23, is making her first appearance at the senior level for the United States after capturing a silver medal in the steeplechase at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in 2019 in Queretaro, Mexico. She produced a lifetime-best 9:25.05 to finish fourth in the steeplechase final June 26 at the USATF Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., and will be competing in the Bahamas along with friend and Team Boss training partner Katie Rainsberger, as the New Balance professional placed fifth in Eugene, Ore., in a personal-best 9:29.77. Jennings reflects on meeting Rainsberger for the first time in Mexico, where the Washington graduate placed second in the 1,500, and how they are two of the five female athletes on the U.S. roster in the Bahamas that also competed at the NACAC Under-23 event in 2019, along with Tonea Marshall in the 100 hurdles, Alina McDonald in the pole vault and Laulauga Tausaga-Collins in the discus throw. She examines the opportunity to not only win her first international gold medal at the NACAC meet, which would extend the U.S. streak to four in a row in the women's steeplechase, but also secure the World Athletics Championships qualifying standard for the 2023 global meet in Hungary. Jennings also revisits her opportunities to compete July 29 in the 1,500 meters at the Ed Murphey Classic in Tennessee, running a lifetime-best 4:08.63, as well as returning to the Sir Walter Miler on Aug. 5 in Raleigh, N.C., and improving her personal best by clocking 4:31.78. She speaks about the benefits of competing in world-class fields in May at the USATF Distance Classic at Mt. SAC in California, as well as June at the Portland Track Festival, and the advantage of training with 10-time U.S. steeplechase champion Emma Coburn under the guidance of coach Joe Bosshard in Colorado.
